Super Skills Sessions

I’ll be honest – I miss the thrill of coaching an elite player through some small stumbling block; I miss coaching tiny technical details; I miss seeing the incremental gains of consistent effort –  (I also miss going to international tournaments but that’s a different discussion)

For the first time ever, I am going to be offering extremely small group, individualized training sessions in the Valley.  This is strictly limited to 8 players and will be coached directly by me, with one of the most self-made, technically skilled players I have coached, former St Johnsbury Academy star and Vassar College player John Gaston to demonstrate skills, help with development and give great anecdotes on what it took to turn him into one of the most technical players in the area.

This is not for everyone and I’m not pretending that it is.  Each session will be a player and a ball; no scrimmage, no free-play (and you know I love free-play), and an abundance of attention to detail.  It will have lots of repetition, lots of detailed critique and make use of video analysis, both in regular speed for recognition as well as slow-motion for critical corrections.

In my head, I think this targets players (both boys and girls) in the age range of 9-14 (or older, honestly).  Since it is purely individual, a 9-year-old can comfortably train next to a 19-year-old in this environment, and be completely safe to develop at their pace.  While the skill-set will be identical between ages and abilities, expectation and refinement will be based on each child.  I don’t believe this is the best environment for typical 6-year-olds, but could (and likely will) provide something like that in the future.

Three sessions will cover: 1) comfort on the ball with repetitive movement; 2) more important changes of direction; and 3) changes of pace to beat opponents.  The sessions will be designed to perfect movement, not learn a thousand different things.  By far, the most important thing is it will help you decipher the difference of inches, or even centimeters, between “pretty good” and “excellent”.

I have heard world-class international players claim that you only need a single move, plus it’s compliment (it looks the same but goes in a different direction), refined to perfection, to be a truly elite player.  This is where that foundation is built,

Session 1 starts Friday July 16 at 5:00 and runs for 3 consecutive weeks.

Session 2 starts Friday August 6 at 5:00 and runs for 3 consecutive weeks

The cost for either session is $75 per player.
